It’s officially June, which means the heat is on its way. If you work a consistent 8-5 like most of us, you wake up in the morning, get s’o fresh and so clean (clean)’, and make your way into the office, either on foot, public transit or in your own vehicle. But when the temperatures start rising above 90 degrees before 9 a.m., how do you make it all happen without sweating through your clothes, off your makeup, and from your mane? That’s the question.
Read on to read some hot tips (ha!) on how to stay cool while still putting off pro-FRESH-inal airs in the summer heat.
Let’s break it down into a couple of categories, shall we? Essentially to tools and apparel.
First up, tools.
Each of these items is a must have (at least) on your vanity, and if you have room, can even go in your bag if you want to avoid the development of any stains or odor while on your commute.
Next up, apparel.
What better to reference than Forbes Magazine when we’re looking for advice on how to look and stay cool for work even when it’s super hot? According to the linked article, “Your appearance is an important piece of your professional brand--just as much as a well-crafted resume or a polished LinkedIn profile.” So... what does Forbes suggest?
Additionally, we recommend straight up avoiding flip flops, shorts, spaghetti straps, halter tops, tube tops, miniskirts and rompers. Really, anything that belongs in your beach bag, that you would wear to a bar or to bed, or put in your gym bag has no place in the office. A good rule of thumb is, “If you aren’t sure if it’s inappropriate for the office, it probably is, so don’t risk it.”
Other mistakes to avoid? Sundresses without a blazer or cardigan; a sloppy loose topknot; sunglasses on your head; anything too short or too tight (specifically for skirts or dresses); tops with too many buttons undone; logo shirts; or anything with a print better suited for a boat party than the office.
